A prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP) is an electronic database that tracks controlled substance prescriptions. Prescription drug monitoring programs are at the state level and serve to improve opioid prescribing, inform clinicians, and protect patients at risk.
Some states have implemented polices that require providers to check a state PDMP prior to prescribing certain controlled substances.
Together with DoseSpot, XLDent provides easy access to most state PDMPs. When beginning an ePrescription on the patient details page, an automatic request is made for the patient's PDMP history. If the PDMP request is successful the patient's Narx scores will display. These scores will gauge the patient's potential substance risks. Clinicians also have the option of viewing a full PDMP report.
