Spring Cleaning!

Apr 04, 2017

It's the time of year to think about Spring cleaning! What better time to tackle some computer and software tasks you might be putting off.

Top 3 Spring cleaning areas to get started with:

  1. Inactive Patients. Now is a great time to clean up your patient database by inactivating patients that haven't been seen in a long time. Start by asking this question - What does your practice consider an inactive patient (not seen in 18 months, 24 months, longer)? Use the Patient by Last Visit Report to get a list of patients outside of your cutoff. Update those on the list to Inactive in the Patient Record.

    Note:
If this is the Responsible Party, ensure all family records are also inactive. If some family members are still active, mark the Responsible Party as Auxiliary rather than Inactive.

    Tip:
Consider creating an SOP for new and inactive patients. Include such things as using the Advanced Search to find patients that may be coming in after they've been inactivated to avoid creating a duplicate patient record.

  2. Treatment Plans. Review all outstanding treatment plans and work to get patients scheduled. The Pending and Early List is an easy way to see all treatment plans. Filter by Type - TPlan and all the info in the list makes it quick to contact patients for needed treatment. Drag-and-drop right from the list into the desired time on the schedule!

  3. Windows and Antivirus Updates. Stay compliant and protected by keeping your computers (Server and Workstations) up-to-date with Windows updates. Security appliances, firewalls, and antivirus software should have an active subscription and receive regular updates. If you are not sure if your systems are current, contact your Network Service Provider (NSP) to review this.
