DIA 2012 Annual Conference

Posted May 23, 2012 by Duane A

We had the opportunity to be part of the 2012 Dental Integrators Conference in Scottsdale, Arizona last month.  The DIA is a network of leading independent dental technology integration firms from across the country.  It was formed to create and deliver a higher standard of quality and care for dental practice technology integration.  Check out their website at http://www.dentalintegrators.org/

We were able to meet numerous members from across the country and present our XLDent suite of software for the DIA Members.  Since the conference, many DIA Members have applied for our certification program so they can better support XLDent user in their respective areas.

We are looking forward to continuing to work with the DIA for many years to come, and to building relationships that will benefit our user base.

Interop 2012

Posted May 15, 2012 by Stacey S

The focus of this year’s Interop Business Technology conference at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, NV was all about personal devices, such as iPads and Smartphones, being brought into the business environment.  It is well known that the popularity of these devices has increased three-fold in the past 2 years, and it seems only natural that the prospect of accessing your business from anywhere your mobile device travels is a temptation many cannot deny.  This movement is called BYOD, which translates to Bring Your Own Device to some, and Bring Your Own Disaster to others.  Due to the uncontrolled [and unsecured] status of most personal devices, IT personnel caution businesses to evaluate existing wireless network appliances for proper security and necessary bandwidth before jumping cannonball-style into BYOD.  The message was that businesses have no control over the installed applications and files contained on personal devices, and introduction of these applications and files into the business network is a serious risk that requires careful preparation.  To combat the BYOD movement, network appliance vendors such as Gnodal, NEC and Alcatel-Lucent have developed new products that allow more WLAN bandwidth – up to 40Gbps – and more control within the appliance itself to determine who and what can connect to the network.  This innovative new technology, known as software-defined networking (SDN), gives IT staff the tools needed to safely introduce personal devices on a business WLAN without compromising performance or accessibility for the users and/or applications that need it the most.  The bottom line is that although bringing your iPad to work and connecting to your WLAN seems harmless on the surface, it is important to consider the security ramifications and additional wireless usage these devices will introduce.  The last thing your network needs is death by Angry Birds.

XLDent™ and Tablet PC’s help to improve patient experiences

Posted May 10, 2012 by Dawn

XLDent doctors and patients of XLDent offices share their experiences in the May issue of Dental Products Report magazine.  DPR’s new Patient Perspective column and the Clinical 360 section are exactly what we’ve been waiting for!  Finally, some content and perspectives highlighting experiences from the patient’s point of view.   After all….it’s all about the patients and improving their dental health isn’t it? The entire flow and design of XLDent center around the patient experience and the circle of treatment.  Dr. Willis says, “The main benefit [XLDent has] for the practice is the user-friendly features for patients….”(pg. 48).  Patients of XLDent offices say it’s nice to review their prophy exam and xrays on a tablet with the doctor.  They like to see photos of their problem areas and presentations of proposed work because it helps to increase their confidence in treatment (pg. 92).  With XLDent and a mobile tablet, doctors and staff can easily and effectively engage patients in their treatment.    These perspective articles on using mobile solutions to engage the patient are long overdue.
