In the 1950s, the majority of Americans over the age of 65 had no teeth at all! Advances in dentistry and the addition of fluoride to the water and toothpaste have reversed that trend. Remember tooth loss does not go hand-in-hand with gray hair! With proper care, we can all have a great smile.

If you snack between meals, make sure you choose nutritious foods that have the least potential to harm your teeth. Chewing sugar-free gum after a snack may also help by countering the effects of acids that are produced by bacteria that forms on the teeth. If you snack carefully, it will help improve your general health and keep tooth decay to a minimum.

What you eat, greatly affects your dental health. A nutritious balanced diet provides the nutrients your body needs to build strong bones, healthy gums, and decay resistant teeth. Do I brush and floss my teeth enough? We're asked that question on a daily basis. Our recommendation is that our patients should brush at least twice a day. Flossing will help remove food particles which can contribute to plaque build-up between teeth and below the gum line. Your commitment to home dental care will help keep you smiling.

Does one toothbrush work for everybody? Usually not! There are various sizes and bristle strengths depending upon the age and condition of one's teeth. To find the toothbrush that is right for your teeth just ask our experienced hygiene staff. Is there a right way to brush my teeth? Believe it or not the answer is YES! For the most effective results you should place your toothbrush at a 90 degree angle to the teeth.
