Last week, XLDent attended the 10th Anniversary MN eHealth Summit in St. Louis Park, MN.  This 2-day event kicked off with a refreshing keynote by current National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, Dr. Karen DeSalvo.  Dr. DeSalvo’s vision for the future of Health IT Is bright, and Minnesota was commended for being at the forefront of the Health IT movement.

This year, the eHealth Summit hosted educational workshops for specialty healthcare settings, and Dentistry was one of them.  This Workshop gave Dental attendees an opportunity to openly discuss how the 2015 EHR Mandate will affect Dentistry, and what adjustments need to be made to comply.  The MDA’s Bridgett Anderson and Dr. Mark Jurkovich discussed how HIPAA Omnibus sets the stage for secure transmission of PHI, as well as the status of the Electronic Dental Record itself.  Dr. Jurkovich’s experience in ADA Dental Informatics Workgroups offered insight into the vision for bridging the gap between EDR and EHR to achieve the ultimate goal of interoperability between all types of healthcare records.

The message for all who attended is that the future for ALL healthcare settings lies in the interoperability of Electronic Records.  To keep pace with the latest news, visit www.khareach.org
